Welcome to the online home of KWLC AM 1240
The entire staff here at KWLC 1240 AM is dedicated to bringing you the absolute best in commercial free, alternative radio. With a variety of styles and types of programming, you're sure to find something you'll love any day of the week.
KWLC is what would happen if John Lennon, John Coltrane, Kurt Cobain, Ani Difranco, Muddy Waters, and Mozart came together to form an unstoppable super group. Luther College radio station's weekly on-air schedule covers a wide variety of musical styles, sports, news, and live-in-studio jam sessions with up-and-coming student bands. All DJs select their own music and work on a volunteer basis, ensuring that every show is produced by knowledgeable people who are excited about what they're playing.
On December 18th, 1926, KWLC's inaugural broadcast featured then-Luther president Oscar Olson reading the Gettysburg Address. Since then, "the little station that could" has evolved to become a vital part of the Luther experience, claiming an office in the basement of the Union alongside the college newspaper, Chips, and the Pioneer Yearbook. With all the enthusiasm you could conceivably pack into 1,000 watts, KWLC broadcasts every weekday night from 10pm-1am and from 7am-1am on weekends.
As an extension of the college, KWLC is fortunate not to be a slave to the economic constraints of the marketplace. Not only do all programs run commercial-free, but no niche market is too small, and few things are too experimental to get at least a couple of spins on 1240 am. If it's new, unproven, and causing a stir, chances are KWLC had it first.
